In 2005, Vanessa Sofia was working in design and product development at Country Road under Sophie Holt. It was one of the formative chapters of her career, working inside a brand she'd grown up admiring, learning what it takes to bring considered, quality-led product to life at scale.
It was during this time that Vanessa spotted a gap in the sleepwear market. There was nothing out there that was both comfortable and genuinely stylish. Nothing you'd feel proud to be seen in. The options were novelty prints, puppy dogs, licensed characters. Vanessa wanted something different. Pared-back, good quality sleepwear that a woman could feel confident in, whatever the time of day.
So she left Country Road and founded Gingerlilly in 2006.
Now, nearly two decades on, Country Road has chosen Gingerlilly as the sleepwear brand they want to carry. For Vanessa, that's a full circle moment she didn't see coming.

The values she absorbed working within Country Road in 2005 are the same values she built Gingerlilly around. It took twenty years, but the two brands have found their way back to each other.
